MEDIA RELEASE: WoolPoll levy rates released

WoolPoll Levy

28th March 2012

This year, woolgrowers will again determine the rate of wool levy for Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) to invest in research, development and marketing.

With the first meeting of the independent WoolPoll Panel this week, the Panel endorsed the proposed levy rates to be voted on at WoolPoll 2012:
0 per cent
1.0 per cent
2.0 per cent
2.5 per cent
3.0 per cent

The five proposed levy rates are the same options presented to woolgrowers in WoolPoll 2003, 2006 and 2009.

A key role for the 2012 WoolPoll Panel is to maximise voter turnout, drawing on their extensive networks with woolgrowers across Australia. WoolPoll Panel Chair Will Roberts said “the WoolPoll Panel will work hard to ensure that woolgrowers across Australia participate in this important decision about the future research, development and marketing funding for their industry”.

The WoolPoll Panel is as follows:
Will Roberts, Panel Chair (Qld)
Geoff Power, WoolProducers Australia and South Australian Farmers Federation (SA)
Rod Thirkell-Johnston, Superfine Woolgrowers Association & Tasmanian Farmers & Graziers Association (Tas)
Tom Ashby, Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders (SA)
Chick Olsson, Australian Wool Growers Association (NSW)
Archie Cameron, NSW Farmers Association (NSW)
Geoff Fisken, Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF)
Wayne Duffield, Pastoralists & Graziers Association (WA)
Allen Grant, Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry
George Falkiner, AWI Board (NSW)
